Canopy fabric

Nearly material that can be stretched over a framework can be used as canopy fabric. Plastic tarps, cotton sheets and even old blankets can be used to provide shade. However, the most commonly used materials are canvas and polyester.

If you’re looking for a waterproof canopy fabric, then acrylic canvas is the preferred material. This material is exceptionally strong, provides adequate shading and keeps moisture from leaking through, regardless of how hard it’s raining. Acrylic canvas can also be dyed to nearly any color.

Mesh is also commonly used as a canopy fabric. While a tightly woven mesh material will provide adequate shading, they are not recommended as a waterproof material. However, unlike waterproof materials like acrylic canvas, mesh does allow a higher degree of air flow.
