Patio canopy

Anyone who’s ever had a backyard barbecue during the summer knows the value of a patio canopy. They provide a shady place for friends and family members to relax outside without having to be under the persistent glare of the sun. They can also help keep the cook cool while standing over the grill.

A patio canopy doesn’t have to be a large, expensive enclosure. Depending on the size of your patio, a large umbrella is all that is needed. Retractable awnings are also commonly used for small patio areas.

Many do-it-yourselfers enjoy building their own patio canopy. In some cases these are a simple overhang that is connected to the roof of the home. Others prefer to build free-standing structures that cover the entire patio.
